A whare that invigorates a tired 2000’s dwelling, inviting multi-generational living in a celebration of life by the water.

LAKE HOUSE.

With an early 2000’s interior filled with the barriers of walls and hallways, the priority for this project was fostering open-ness and connection between internal spaces, as well as creating a deep connection with the external landscape.

Less is more with this project, where simple, open spaces make way for light and sound to connect people and place.

Throughout the whare, the lightness of warm tones and natural timbers are carefully considered to reinforce openness, and interiors are re-planned thoughtfully to provide the whānau with flexibility, simplicity and futureproofing of life.

The client’s cultural connection with the nearby lake, and water in general, was at the heart of this brief. Meticulous design decisions were made to ensure this was at the forefront of the design response.

Currently reaching it’s final stages of construction, this project is set to be complete in 2026.
