By balancing budget, construction efficiency and enduring design principles, the project delivers a modern rural home that is timeless, comfortable and built to enrich the lives of those who call it home.

PROJECT ŌHAU.

Project Ōhau is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional rural farmhouse: designed to demonstrate that thoughtful architecture need not come at the expense of affordability. Rather than relying on complexity, the design embraces clean lines, simple forms and an efficient layout to create a home that is both practical to build and exceptional to live in.

From the outset, careful consideration was given to construction methodology, material selection and budget. By designing with efficient building systems, uncomplicated roof forms and a rational structural layout, the project minimises construction costs while maximising value. Every design decision was made with longevity and buildability in mind, proving that a well-resolved architectural home can be achieved without unnecessary cost or compromise.

The exterior combines the durability of metal cladding with the natural warmth of Abodo timber, creating a material palette that responds to the surrounding rural Ōhau landscape. Robust, low-maintenance materials ensure the home will perform for generations, while the warmth and texture of timber soften the architecture and establish a strong connection to its natural setting.

Inside, carefully considered planning delivers bright, generous and highly functional living spaces that exceed the expectations of a typical standard home. Strong connections to the outdoors, abundant natural light and a focus on thermal comfort create a healthy, energy-efficient environment that supports everyday family life. The result is a home that feels refined yet uncomplicated—where quality is achieved through intelligent design rather than excess.

Project Ōhau reflects our belief that great architecture is about making smart decisions. By balancing budget, construction efficiency and enduring design principles, the project delivers a modern rural home that is timeless, comfortable and built to enrich the lives of those who call it home.
